This week was so busy! Had to do 2 make-up topical tests...Disappointing results i reckon. I really studied at the eleventh hour...So troubled now...There's a super big physics test coming tomorrow. I don't think my brain can eat 3 sets of physics chapters in one night.
Oh the other day:
I watched Cool Runnings, a movie about the first Jamaican bobsled team based on true history. As you know Jamaican is a country in Africa and there's no ice for bobsledding. But still, in the 1970s, the first bobsled team emerged and qualified for the Olympic Winter Games in Canada. My tears welled up in my eyes when in the end, the team had a record-breaking time but crashed through the course because the bobsled had a technical problem. Why? It was partly because theirs was a basic and rickety training bobsled. The Jamaican Olympic Committee did not sponsor the hopeful team a single cent and it was only made possible by full contribution of one of the bobsledders.
It is a very inspiring movie for lost and self-motivated athletes like me.
There are a few things I learned from this movie alone.
- Do you know how the movie portrayed the Jamaican bobsledders being looked down utterly by other contending bobsledders? I call it total humiliation but like my previous coach said abt a junior runner, you must make use of this energy(being humiliated/provoked/anger/despair) to convert into useful energy. That junior's father(i think) passed away before his race but he ran with overwhelming power to win eventually.
- If Jamaica can make it into the Winter Games, every country has an equal chance of participating in absurd sports events.
- Some athletes are never forgotten in history not because they won some huge events, but done a memorable/honourable act.
- Win in your country's,community's and your way. Don't follow others blindly.
The 4 Jamaicans' bobsled stopped short of the finishing line. They embraced each other, got up to their feet and carried the 600 pound bobsled to the end as claps from the overlooking audience by the side grew louder and louder. Ohh I just love the movie. Jamaicans, you have shown me what the true meaning of Olympics is all about.
